First Big Camping Out Weekend Looks To Be On Hold!

First Big Camping Out Weekend Looks To Be On Hold!

This past week has been a wet one, so wet in fact that roads are closed all over Montana from swollen creeks, streams and rivers.  Lots of "I've never seen water in "Dry Creek" before, and I've been here 30 years!

Flat land that has just a minimal slope, is suffering from flooding as well, septic drainfields are flowing backwards, into homes, and basements are wet, if not flooded, just from the rain.

How much rain?  Over 6 inches for the month of May, and our yearly average is about 15 inches!  The snowpack in the mountains is over 200% of average, in many places, and this hasn't melted yet either!

Rumors, some which turn out to be true have been updated on the facebook pages, along with pictures of scenes of water inundated roads, (some parts missing).

camping in MontanaJust stay home this Memorial Day Weekend!  With a little bit of heat, the snow in the Mountains will melt and you could find yourself stranded, for days!  You may not be able to even get to your camping spots right now!

Just put your camping trip on hold, for now, and let's see how the rest of this weather system goes over the next week.

I think my huckleberry picking trip the end of July may be delayed, hope there's still berries!

That reminds me of a camping trip we went on with my son's scout troop, it was at the coastguard training grounds in Cape May NJ.... they took us to our spot to camp, and there were ducks swimming where we had to set up...

It aint camp if it aint Damp!

@ Sharon, I think people are surprised that Eastern Montana is really a high desert plain, we like our sunshine, hope it comes back!

@ Robert, I think those blow up mattresses are in order!  at least they could float, maybe just hook up an anchor?

Hey Wanda - river's are on the rise all over.  Looking forward to a little sunshine, but sunshine melts that snowpack you mentioned.  May be a late fishing season.

All best,
Jason Frey

I'm pretty worried about the snowpack as well.  Our ground is totally soaked and can't absorb much, so any rain just runs right off into the creeks and rivers, competing with the snow melt for room!

We will have lots and lots of hay this year though :)

I am headed out tomorrow to Rickets glen... 21 waterfalls in a 7.5 mile hike, with all the rain we have had I hope they are flowing well!

after 2 weeks of rain we have sun shine here in Ct.

You all have a great weekend and celebrate how fortunately we are to live in this great country with such dedicate folks as the veterans.

Wanda, our weekend looks to be a wash-out as well, so hope you find something equally as fun to make a GREAT weekend!
