Grasshopper invasion on the Montana Prairie, some of these guys are BIG!

Grasshoppers are just gross looking.  I know they're one of God's creatures, but yuk!

We were destined to have a terrible year for grasshoppers on the Eastern Montana prairie, but so far, it's been bad, but not nearly as awful as we expected.

I love to go for rides, and while I was touring some large land parcels on the Molt-Rapelje road, I had to stop the car for the biggest grasshopper I'd ever seen in the area.

I don't know what kind of fertilizer this fellow was munching on, but I think farmers should just keep that stuff in a tighter grasshopper container.

If I head out to the mailbox and run into one of these guys, I'm just gonna have to call on the Montana Army National Guard (could make a good movie).

Looks like you can put some really cool plants in it and make it part of the landscaping.

Ralph, I didn't want to get too close, in case this thing was hungry.

There are some areas here in Colorado where the grass hoppers get prett big...It's hard to drive without running over a bunch of them.

Don, I wish I was as creative as this family, this hopper was found on a back road way out in the prairie, where houses are miles apart!

John, remember I also have a son named John Thomas, so I like to hear from you.  In 1986 the hoppers were so bad, the radiators of the cars were completely clogged, and some parts of the highway were slick from the mass of hoppers!

I wonder how tall the wheat would be in proportion to this grasshopper?

well Cindy, one of the problems with these grasshoppers is they are like combines and they just go along and cut the grain.  Look how short the grass is around this guy!
