Death Of The Serial Home Seller

Just 2 years ago I had a lot of clients who were on their 3rd or 4th home sale and purchase at a pace of one move every two years!  Where have all the serial home sellers gone?  These "movers and shakers" have become "watchers and waiters".

Many of these folks were making more tax free money on moving than they did in their regular jobs as the market climbed and climbed.  We knew things would have to chill eventually, my goodness, who could afford to keep buying as the prices went up and up.

Luckily in our area, Billings Montana, we didn't see the steep climb, therefore we haven't seen the drop off, we're just steady as she goes.

So maybe the serial home seller is just relaxing on the patio in the backyard and is not really dead.

Wanda, the "serial seller" may not be dead, but they are on life-support. Most will never recover.  I was once one of those, but have now been in my home for 7 years. It was great while it lasted, but I doubt we'll see a return to rapidly rising home prices for many years.

Around here they can't sell their house for even as much as they paid for it, so they are sitting tight.

Hi Wanda ~ Around here it seems most sales are motivated by life's big changes - marriages and births being the ones in the happy column.

Hi John, we've been in our home now for the longest period, ever, almost 9 years!  Guess we're just gonna watch those trees grow!

Monica, I hope things improve where you are

Liz, I really like the Happy column, but sadly the unhappy column has been the motivation for some moves amongst my clients lately.

Wanda- Intersting post! Very clever. I agree with the markets in Montana- more steady than many of the other areas of the nation- no over building in our neck of the woods.
