When wasps, hornets and box elder bugs get in the house, my vacuum cleaner becomes my weapon of choice!
Every time I open up the door on the south side of my house, it seems a pesky wasp is just hanging out ready to dart into my otherwise humble abode.
It's bad enough that I can't eat outside on my patio right now because I'm just serving up my dinner as yellowjacket bait (never mind opening up a beer).
Today I was in a vacant home following an otherwise uneventful inspection. Seems 10 or more paper wasps have decided that just inside the sliding glass door is a great place to spend the cool nights of fall.
My recommendation to the new home owner is to attack those things with your vacuum cleaner, and keep the motor running for awhile until you're sure they're dead. I have one of those tornado looking things, bag less, so I make sure and churn them up pretty good before I dare open the can to empty.
I've read that having the wasps and hornets have some advantages, as they tend to eliminate other worms and bugs, but really, I don't like them in my house. I think if they're a real problem, it's time to call the pest control guys.
Box elder bugs love the south side of walls this time of year. They don't bite or
sting, but they are bugs, yuk! If you've got any openings around your windows, they're sure to find them (vacuum works good here too).
